Note: For the remainder of this document, issues that pertain to the DSN-2100, DSN-3200 and DSN-3400 products will be identified as DSN-2100/3200/3400.
D-Link Systems, Inc.™ is shipping the next firmware version release, V1.5.1 for the DSN-2100/3200/3400 products. The V1.5.1 release notes identify what is included and what limitations have been identified as part of this release. The V1.5.1 release has all key functionality, with verification completed to support the customer base for the DSN-2100/3200/3400 products.
The V1.5.1 release has been identified as a mandatory release and should be implemented as soon as possible.
The V1.4.1 release must be installed as the first step in upgrading to the V1.5.1 release. Please upgrade to V1.4.1 first immediately followed by upgrading to V1.5.1.
1.1 Purpose The purpose of this document is to communicate the release of the DSN-2100/3200/3400 product firmware V1.5.1 release. This document will include what is identified as supported functionality, what was originally supported, but not part of this release and what errata and caveats that may effect the operation of the DSN-2100/3200/3400 products.
1.2 Scope This document is a release note on the V1.5.1 release. It is not a product spec, nor does it specify the total functionality of the DSN-2100/3200/3400 products.

1.4 Out of the Box – Update and or Installation Requirements The V1.5.1 release is available as a field upgrade that can be applied against firmware V220.127.116.11 (or later). Any DSN-2100/3200/3400 product having an earlier version of firmware must first be upgraded to V18.104.22.168 before installing this release.
There has been an issue found with interaction of the DSN-3200/3400 Management Console and Java J2SE Release 5. D-Link Systems continues to work through the issue and provide the most up to date operation and capability where possible.
This issue requires that the workstation accessing the DSN-2100/3200/3400 Management Console, under firmware V1.5.1 release, use Java J2SE Release1.4.2 (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/). In other words, the 1.4.2 version of Java must be installed on the PC system that will attach to the management port of the DSN-2100/3200/3400 and host the management console. This should be done prior to the first connection to the DSN-2100/3200/3400 management port.
2.1 DSN-3200/3400 Features The following features are the new features included in the V1.5.1 release:
2.2 VDS Hardware Provider for Microsoft Windows This new option on the DSN-2100/3200/3400 main web page allows you to install and configure a D-Link VDS Provider for the DSN-2100/3200/3400 system for Microsoft Virtual Disk Service (“VDS”). Microsoft VDS is a set of storage management tools that is available on Windows products. Support for iSCSI is provided by Microsoft VDS only on Server 2003 R2 starting with version 1.1 and on all versions of Windows Vista. For the V1.5.1 firmware release, the D-Link VDS provider is only supported on Windows 2003 R2 with Microsoft VDS version 1.1; Windows Vista will be supported in a future release of the DSN- 2100/3200/3400 software.
The VDS provider can be downloaded and installed from the DSN-2100/3200/3400 main web page (the page that comes up when the management port on a DSN-2100/3200/3400 is addressed through a browser) when viewed from a Windows system that is using Internet Explorer. Prior to installation of the D-Link VDS Provider, the Storage Manager for SANs package must be separately installed on Windows Server 2003 R2. That package installs Microsoft VDS version 1.1 with iSCSI support and includes the DiskRaid and Storage Manager for SANs applications described below. The D-Link VDS Provider installation includes a Control Panel applet that allows you to configure the Advanced Features for Windows feature, and add or remove DSN-2100/3200/3400 systems that are to be managed by the D-Link VDS Provider. In addition, the installation procedure creates a Start Menu shortcut for the Control Panel applet. At any time, the Advanced Features elements can be uninstalled cleanly.
Note: The D-Link VDS Provider allows basic management capabilities, but it is not intended to replace the DSN-2100/3200/3400 Management Console.
After you install the D-Link VDS Provider, you can use any VDS-based application (such as Microsoft’s DiskRaid utility and Storage Manager for SANs application) to configure and manage any DSN- 2100/3200/3400 product. For more information, please refer to the appropriate Microsoft documentation.
2.2.1 Known Issues and Limitations The following are known issues and limitations for the Advanced Features for Windows:
• The D-Link VDS Provider does not currently support the creation of network portals. Therefore the iSCSI network configuration must be done using the DSN-2100/3200/3400 Management Console.
• If the DSN-2100/3200/3400 Management Console is open while making any configuration changes to portals, volumes, or initiators to a target through the D-Link VDS Provider, those changes may not be reflected through the DSN-2100/3200/3400 Management Console. Simply restart the DSN- 2100/3200/3400 Management Console to obtain the latest system status.
For more detailed information, refer to the Microsoft documentation for DiskRaid and Storage Manager for SANs.
2.2 “All Initiators” Feature A permanent iSCSI initiator with the name of “All Initiators” can be associated with a target node, so that it allows any initiator to login to that target. This initiator cannot be deleted from the system.
2.3 Other Improvements The following issues from previous releases have been fixed in the V1.5.1 release: • Added VMware ESX software initiator support • Out-of-Box Wizard now allows setting of the Time Zone • Resolved issue where regularly scheduled tasks sometimes failed to start • Resolved various software failure conditions that cause an unexpected restart of the controller
